Australian drift instructor

Benkei Bruin

Benkei Bruin is a highly respected name in the drifting community, with more than a decade spent developing drivers and sharpening his own craft across both simulator and real-world competition. As head coach at Archerfield Drift Park for over 7 years, he has guided hundreds of drivers — from first-time beginners to seasoned pros — through every stage of their progression.

A true pioneer of the sim-to-real (sim-to-IRL) movement, Benkei was using simulators as serious training tools long before they became mainstream. His coaching has delivered proven results, with students now competing in D1NZ Pro and Pro-Am, as well as professional sim racers transitioning to motorsport. Notably, he trained Matt Simmons (PlayStation Academy winner and former Nissan factory driver in the Blancpain Endurance Series) and Alex Gardener (GT3 driver for Aston Martin).

As a competitor, Benkei has earned multiple Top 8 finishes and podiums in Drift Challenge Australia and Revolution GP. Most recently, he placed 4th at Hi-Tec Drift All-Stars while driving a 2JZ-powered S15 he had never piloted before — a testament to his adaptability and skill.

Archerfield Drift Park was where it all began. More than just shaping his driving, it shaped his philosophy. It was here he forged a long-standing friendship with fellow competitor Ben Odgers, built on respect, competition, and a shared passion for Japanese car culture. That connection became the foundation for Drift Japan Tours, an operation designed to give others the same transformative experiences drifting gave them.

With deep ties to Japan, a track record of proven coaching success, and years of competitive experience, Benkei is committed to one mission: helping every student unlock their full potential as fast as possible.
